Children of the 80s try not to flinch - one of the most polarizing fashion trends has found its way back into the mainstream.
They are not teasing hair, stirrup pants or hair ties. It is not even a hammer pants.
The belt pouch is back and is on some of the biggest fashion catwalks this year. Vogue called it one of the leading trends last spring and summer.
But these are not the neon-colored nylon bags and waist straps you remember, says Winnipeg-style blogger Jackie Anderson of Style My Dreams.
"Fashion is always a circle, there is rarely anything new," she said. "Things are being updated or changed, so I'm curious what next year will look like."
The belt bag has its roots in primitive times. According to the VICE magazine, it appeared for the first time more than 5,000 years ago as part of Ötzi or Iceman's wardrobe, whose mummified remains were found in Europe. The hip bag was also used in Egyptian civilizations and by English knights.

She celebrated her triumphant return when it became widespread in the 1980s. Some found it convenient, others found it downright ugly.
Anderson, who is married to Corus radio host Hal Anderson, said she was not up to date, but admits that the bag has become fancier.
"Many of the designers have modernized them. The current versions for 2018/2019 are at least slimmer, more compact and more practical for our lifestyle, "she said.
The trend is also appealing to more men, Anderson said. Popular men's streetwear company Supreme released a hip pack worn by some of the biggest fashion influencers, including A $ AP Rocky and Justin Bieber.
"I would say that more men in this generation are more fashion-conscious, and much more fond of wearing stylish clothes. There are so many fashion sites for men and everyone wears the belt, "she said.
Even the sister channel from Global News has joined the trend this year - Power97 has been giving away promotional items to listeners for several months.
It's not a trend Anderson will try, but she's interested in seeing where it's going.
"I do not know if I would personally buy one, but never never say," she said.
